The Rap Game

In a Genre of music that is based of glitz and glam and with record sales of the past decade declining, its not surprising to hear that in reality most rappers are not as wealthy as they appear.
The youth of today need to take this video in and realize that it isn't always what it seems, and that instead of just deciding to "rap" they are indeed better off picking up some books are gaining an education.
The record industry in indeed designed to keep the artists in debt. the following clip is a short that has some of the hip hop industries biggest names explaining that indeed not every rapper is as rich and wealthy and they appear to be.

Happy Trails Shaq

After a storied 19 year career, Shaquille O'neal has announced his retirement from professional basketball. A career that saw him win four NBA titles, the MVP award, three Finals MVP awards, and 15, count 'em 15 All-Star selections. He was the first truly "fun" big guy, the first big to really cross over into popular culture. (O'neal has recorded 4 studio albums and his first "Shaq Diesel" went certified platinum). From his larger than life physique to showtime personality Shaq will go down as one of the greatest players of our generation, let alone of all times.
As our own way of saying thank you, we here at the Ballstreet have complied a bunch of some of Shaq most memorable moments over that past 19 years

Jesus walks Mr. West to a Grammy

"The way Kathy-Lee needed Regis that's the way I need Jesus"

This being the first Grammy award win for Mr. West, we here at The Ballstreet found it fitting to do some research.

The single "Jesus Walks" received immense praise from critics for its open embracement of faith in the face of the oft-secular music industry, with many expressing their astonishment that such an overtly religious song was embraced by radio.

"So here go my single, dog, radio needs this/They say you can rap about anything except for Jesus/That means guns, sex, lies, video tapes/But if I talk about God my record won't get played, huh?"

This is directly taken from West's experiences when he was struggling to get signed onto a record label; many executives turned him down after he played a "Jesus Walks" demo for them.

They reasoned that he did not conform to the stereotypes associated with mainstream hip-hop and therefore was not easily marketable. Many of his friends in the music industry also warned him that while the song was outstanding, it would never make it to radio.- A testament to not letting anyone tell you that you cannot accomplish a goal,as long as you believe in yourself your boundaries are limitless.

The single off his College Dropout Album, was accompanied by three separate music videos, each of which visually interpreted a portion of its multifaceted context in different ways. "Jesus Walks" continues to be a crowd favorite and stands as one of the most-performed songs by Mr. West, who has included it within all of his headlining tours.

At the 47th Grammy Awards, "Jesus Walks" was awarded the Grammy for Best Rap Song. Rolling Stone named the song #19 on their list of 100 Best Songs of the 2000s decade. It was also added on the 2010 updated list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time", coming in at #273.

Here is the second version of this video.

Style meets functionality.

For all of those that do not know, Skate company Volcom has been taken over by PPR, a luxury french retailer. PPR also owns fashion houses Gucci, Balenciaga and Alexander McQueen, whose creative director Sarah Burton designed the Duchess of Cambridge, Catherine Middleton's, wedding dress.
At $607.5 million this is no small deal. Volcom last year made a net profit of $22.3 million on revenue up 14 percent at $323.2 million.
Some estimated that Volcom would account for less than 2 percent of PPR's 2011 sales, which is staggering.
We here are The Ballstreet are excited to see what Volcom will have to offer in the near future, now that they have such a huge backing from a globe fashion conglomerate.
